FAQs

How does my membership renew?

We automatically renew memberships paid for by Direct Debit. You'll receive a renewal email and a direct debit advance notice email to let you know when this will be collected. If you pay by card or bank transfer, you'll receive an email letting you know your membership is ready to be renewed, and you then make an online payment in .

How do I cancel my membership?

Please email us. If you pay for your membership by Direct Debit, you'll also need to tell your bank you wish to cancel this. Please note that membership fees are non-refundable, as per our terms and conditions.

How do I set up a Direct Debit for my membership fees?

Please email us or call 020 7842 0900 to set up your Direct Debit. You must have a bank account in order to do this.

How can I change my Direct Debit bank account details?

Please email us and we will update these details for you.

What date are Direct Debit payments taken from my account?

These are taken on or around the 7th of each month.

Am I eligible for a reduced rate of membership?

If you're retired, on parental leave or taking time out of our programme, you are eligible for a discount on your membership. The retired rate is for those who have reached UK retirement age and are no longer employed.

Members on maternity or paternity leave get a 50% discount on membership; we must see a letter from your employer confirming your leave dates for you to be eligible for this rate.

If you're a trainee taking time out of programme, you can have a 25% discount. You'll need to supply a letter from your deanery or training programme confirming your current situation.

What are the membership terms and conditions?

You can view them here.

Where can I find my membership number?

In  below your Primary Workplace. It's also included in all communications you receive from us.

How can I avoid creating a duplicate membership account?

If you already have a membership account, please continue using your existing account rather than creating a new one with a different email address. You can update your email address at any time through your Account Settings, even if you no longer have access to your previous email address. If you’re unable to sign in to your original account, contact us and we’ll help you recover access to prevent duplicate accounts and ensure your membership, benefits, and billing remain in one place.

Why am I being asked to log in separately to access my account details and eLearning?

As part of our current Single Sign-On (SSO) setup, you may temporarily be asked to log in separately when accessing your account details and eLearning platform. Please use the same email address and password for both logins to ensure your membership information, learning history, and access remain correctly linked.

Using different login details or creating a new account may result in duplicate accounts or access issues. We’re working to streamline this experience as part of ongoing improvements to our systems.

Not Receiving a Password Reset Code

If you are not receiving a password reset code, please first check your junk or spam email folders, as automated emails can sometimes be filtered by your email provider. Also ensure that you are using the same email address that was used to register your account.

If you still do not receive the email after a few minutes, please contact the membership team for further assistance so we can help you regain access to your account.

What should I do if I think I have more than one BSR account?

If you have used multiple email addresses, you may have more than one account. To avoid issues with your membership benefits and records, please contact us so we can check and help consolidate your details where possible.

I'm no longer receiving eNews

Please check your spam folder and make sure our email address hasn't been blocked by your organisation. You can switch your preferred email address at any time in MyBSR. Get in touch if this doesn't fix the problem.

How do I access my member benefits through the website?

You'll need to log into MyBSR to access member-exclusive areas of the website, such as eLearning. All members (excluding Associates) get free access to Rheumatology but you'll need to use the login Oxford University Press provides you with. If you haven't got this login, or can't access your account, please contact us.

Code of conduct

Is there a code of conduct for members?

Our members are bound by a code of conduct. The code is intended to provide a clear set
of standards as to how BSR members (in all categories of membership) should represent
themselves. The standards relate to all forms of communication including written, verbal, nonverbal, electronic and social media.

As a member of BSR, individuals are expected to demonstrate attributes of integrity,
competence, and responsibility in both their personal and professional conduct. Members
should not act in any way that might damage the reputation of their profession or the Society.
Failure to adhere to this code of conduct may result in suspension of your membership, or
your expulsion from the Society.

Standards:
• Demonstrate attributes of integrity, competence and responsibility in both personal and
professional conduct
• Uphold the integrity of the rheumatology profession, and refrain from conduct which
detracts from its reputation and/or the reputation of BSR
• Take reasonable steps to ensure professional judgement is not compromised nor
perceived as being compromised because of bias, conflict of interest, or the undue
influence of others
• Treat others with respect and consideration, in line with BSR’s values
• Recognise and value individual differences and diversity
• Respect BSR’s standards and rules
• Treat information with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity

Raising a complaint/concern
Any allegation of breach of the BSR code of conduct will be investigated and may lead to
disciplinary action being taken against a member. Our complaints/disciplinary procedure
aims to provide a clear, fair, and transparent process and governs how the investigation
will be conducted and a range of possible outcomes including expulsion from membership
in the most serious cases.

You can report any concerns you have about a member confidentially. Concerns should be sent to membership@rheumatology.org.uk
